Frequently Asked Quesetions
Ardor is an affordable, self-sustaining, equitable ecosystem of players. We are actively building a community that shares a common philosophy and system. Not only are we focused on producing quality works of psychological realism, but also dedicated to creating a weekly space for actors to train their craft. We know what it's like balancing survival in New York City while being an actor in an increasingly competitive industry- so we created a space to do something about it.
A flexible actor's gym that gets you up on your feet and working from day one. Serves as the funding aparatus for company projects. Pay what you can.
Our labs are open to all! The only requirement for joining is to attend the Intro Class, which occurs the first weekend of every month.
The Intro Class is 3 hours in length and is a comprehensive, digestible crash course on what Ardor is all about. This is not a performance technique class. We discuss the vocabulary, philosophy, and system we use so that when we are in lab, we are speaking the same language.
At our weekly labs if chosen to bring in a scene, simply indiciate your interest to audition for the company. Auditionees must demonstrate a fundemental understanding of our principles and vocabulary.
Yes. As a company we will be voting for productions and whosever's pitch receives the most votes will direct. Our various departments serve our current elected director's vision. We are open to casting outside of Ardor, but that will be up to the discretion of the production.
Labs are designed to be flexible. You are not required to be at every lab, only the ones that work with your schedule. That being said, the effort you put in directly affects what you get out of it. Company members are expected to attend one lab per month.
Labs are $20 but no one is turned away on account of not being able to pay. The proceeds go to three places: first, recouping studio rental costs. The rest is split in half, with 50% going to the practitioner whose job it was to source cirriculum that week and the other 50% going into a publically audited high-yield savings account that will be the nest egg for our future productions.
