The Definition

Psychological Realism

The genre of acting we are pursuing at Ardor. Defined as "living truthfully in given circumstances".

The Skill

Public Solitude

Why do we train as actors? To build our sense of 'Public Solitude'. Think of it as a muscle. To bring objectivity to living truthfully we measure 'Public Solitude' by the question: "Is the work I'm doing more important than how I'm being perceived?"

The Work

Set vs. Unset

The work is defined by your relationship to two things: the Set & the Unset. Given Circumstances, Direction, Text Analysis live in the Set, while Living Truthfully, Behavior, and Tactics live in the Unset. Your relationship to the given circumstances is based on how well you analyzed the text with the five questions. These questions are the bedrock of your analysis and critical if you are to fully empathize with your character. See questions below.
